Shady Lady

Shady Lady, a Sydney-born and Amsterdam based DJ lays her heart out on the decks for all to see. With a background in theatre and performance her shows are heavily shameless and entertaining. Each set is a performance you will never forget, but don't be fooled by this outlandish presentation; Her knowledge and appreciation of Queer and Black history is forever present in the disco and house she plays.

In Shady Lady’s formative years the family hifi system was home to the sounds of 60s rock, 70s disco, 80s synth-pop and 90s dance music thanks to her father’s eclectic taste. These influences are still apparent in her sets, never failing to drop a couple of classic anthems nestled among the deep digs.

Shady Lady started DJing in Sydney as a resident for the feminist and non-binary collective Comfy Grrrl in 2017. She then began to circulate the local disco and art scene, playing for collectives and events like Backyart, Electric Boogie and Heaps Gay, and volunteering as a grave-yard host for FBi Radio, an alternative music station with a heavy focus on local talent.

Shady Lady skipped the Southern Hemisphere in 2018, slotting herself nicely into the grooves of the Amsterdam dance music scene. You can find her either live streaming her monthly Shady Lady Show, co-hosting her own parties: Jezabel (Queer focused) and Traintracks (soulful and sustainable) or dancing at the front left speaker.

This DJ is driven to make the dance floor move as much as she does, always pushing for palpable and joyous tracks. Shady Lady’s usual set is often about time-travelling moving through 1970's disco, to 80's italo, protohouse, 90s rave and 2000s nu-disco. Teaming with emotion, colour, a sense of nostalgia but with an eclectic knowledge of disco and house music.
